These Potted Histories are a series of 8 cards with photographs, information and discussion prompts on local history identified as relevant to older people living with dementia in Sheffield.
Developed in collaboration with MA History Student Claudia Rogers from the University of Sheffield, these cards are aimed at promoting reminiscence and conversation with older people living with dementia. Funding to design the cards was received from Sheffield Health and Social Care Charity.

ps – can you spot the mistake on the Sheffield Wednesday card? Sylvia did 🙂
A student nurse gave us the idea of ‘Potted Histories’. She said it would be helpful to have some prompt cards with some facts about local history – to help stimulate conversations with older people.Over the past 12 months we have had a University of Sheffield MA History student – Claudia, working on this. After speaking with people with dementia and care staff at Darnall Dementia Group and Grenoside Grange, Claudia researched 8 aspects of Sheffield local history. With the help of a designer this information has been made into 8 A5 cards which will be available online and in print form. Here is a sneak preview of one small part of a ‘Potted History’.
The full set will be available to view here in the next month.
