Plans for a Life Story Showcasing Event

The Told in South Yorkshire Life Story Work advisory group met today. As usual it was great to share an enthusiasm and desire to get Life Story Work more widely used in Sheffield and beyond.

Our plans for the next 12 months include:
Developing some written and online information about life story work and how to get started
Promoting the work of the group more widely in South Yorkshire
Organising a Showcasing Event sometime in November 2013, we envisage a really stimulating and interactive day that people can drop into with activities, examples, talks.

Keep checking the website in coming months for more information.

Visit to BIADS Barnsley

Three of the Told in South Yorkshire Advisory Group visited Barnsley Independent Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support (BIADS) today. We received a warm welcome and enjoyed a great couple of hours sharing experiences and examples of using Life Story Work. Some of the key discussions included:

  • The value of life story in making connections between people
  • Being aware that it can sometimes be emotional for family carers
  • Sharing experiences of how it can help people with dementia feel proud about themselves and their life.

Keep up the fantastic work BIADS and stay in touch.

Life Story Work Information Needs

We have started focus groups with care staff, people with dementia and family carers. These aim to find out what people need to help them get started in using Life Story Work.
A really informative group was held on Tuesday 5th February with 10 staff from a Community Rapid Response Team. Thanks to all for attending – despite the snow!
